This last week, in a span of two days I had two different families that I know, lose loved ones, in rather tragic and painful ways. One was a young couple, expecting their first child any day, and then were presented with the news that their little one had died. The other was a mother of four precious girls and wife to a strong and noble man, who passed away after a long and grueling battle with cancer. Needless to say, my heart has been heavy for these friends and these families. [Read more…] about The Midnight Song

A Shake of the Cosmic Dice
CS Lewis said something along these lines–at least I think it was him, and I think this is what he said–“Never go a day without wondering at something God created.†I think it is good advice and have come to enjoy taking a moment each day to wonder and consider the beauty and simply enjoy the glory of a mighty storm front, a snowfall in which every single flake is hand crafted as it were, or the antics of some critter of God.Â
So, I want to begin sharing some of my observations. God has given us two books to read in order to come to understand Him more: the Word in Text, and the Book of Nature. Bildad Had Sound Doctrine
In my recent journey through the book of Job, one thing that had always puzzled me about the story of Job seemed to grow clear. I’ve always been curious why the advice and counsel of Job’s friends–Bildad, Eliphaz, and Zophar (all relatives of Abram, by the way)–is full of profound truths about our God that the Bible teaches elsewhere; yet, in the end they are rebuked by God. These guys seem to be staunch defenders of the faith, do they not? Here is some of what they say, full of pretty good doctrine!
Life’s Puzzle of Providence
Last Saturday, the students at Ellerslie were doing a fundraiser where they raise funds for orphans by serving widows for the day. It is a great opportunity, and a creative fundraiser idea, and now I’ll shamelessly ask you to consider donating to the project here at Both Hands. It is a great organization that helps families come up with the money to adopt. However, through a series of seeming flukes, while one group was serving a widow in Estes Park, she invited us to go meet and spend time with another widow. To my wonder, and excitement I ended up have the privilege of meeting with this “other widow.†She just happened to be Major Ian Thomas’ widow.
