Orlando was a grievous tragedy. A wicked man did a profoundly wicked deed; murdering 49Â party-goers & injuring 50+ more, traumatizing hundreds, inflicting grief on our whole nation.
But the wickedness of this one action has exposed the wickedness of our whole nation. Yes, this crime took place at a gay bar, in which every weekend wicked things were done by wicked people. This crime also showed the wickedness of the liberals lust for tyranny, shamelessly calling for gun-control, when the victims haven’t even been buried yet. We saw the wickedness of the Republican nominee for president, Donal Trump, immediately turning this tragedy into a weapon to advance his political aspirations. We saw President Obama chiding the “right” for vilifying muslims, and displaying the wickedness of his policies of failing to protect our nations from some of her clearest  threats.
We also saw the wickedness of self-righteous Christians, failing to mourn with those who mourn and failing to show compassion upon the many families who are mourning the loss of their loved one. We saw the wickedness of both spineless foreign policy and the wickedness of war-mongering vengefulness.
The wicked actions of one wicked man has exposed the wickedness found in all of Adam‘s race, and perhaps the saddest thing of all is the fact that our country–both the right and left–has responded not in repentance but by wickedly calling for a “new law”. Both “sides” are legalistic moralists, seeking to remedy sin through man-made laws.
The left wants to leverage this for their tyrannical gun-control policies (which is nothing more than the Government attempting to take a father’s responsibility to protect and defend his family). The right wants to leverage this to insist upon continuing to wage war (which at times is just at others unjust).
But what is needed is not a new law, but a new heart. This has exposed the fact that mankind is in an ugly way, and the only solution is a New Birth, which is offered by the Gospel of Christ. We have forsaken God and His law, and we have found that man’s law only brings more ruin, destruction, and death. Islam must be evangelized with this Gospel of Peace. American fathers need to repent of forsaking the Gospel and the responsibilities conferred upon them by God’s Word; namely, to raise their families to love God fully and love their neighbor as themselves.
God has been very gracious to us by once more bringing the ugliness of sin into the light of day; we must, as a nation, see that the only way sin can be dealt with is through the Cross of Jesus Christ, and what He accomplished there. The Lord shows us our sin, not so we can undertake to purge it with our own acts of self-righteous legalism, but so that we can repent of the wickedness of humanistic moralism and flee to the atoning blood of Christ. After all, God’s patience is a goodness unto us, designed to bring us to repentance (Rom. 2:4).
