Merry Christmas to all my readers! You’ve blessed me so much in faithfully reading and sharing my posts, and I’m exceedingly thankful. I love Christmas—and though the atheists want to erect Satanist shrines next to our nativities, and though the materialists have entirely desecrated not only Christ’s advent but also the legacy of St. Nicholas––and I wanted to write out a few of my thoughts as to how you should celebrate these next few days.
Sadly, many Christians have a perception of God that he is the ultimate Ebenezer Scrooge. He is a penny pinching miser. Or He’s a grinch, seething with wrath over all the merriment and joy of the residents of who-ville. Or, they think He is like Michelle Obama, chiding them for choosing fudge over celery. I think it is important to remember that our God is the God of blessings, “who daily loadeth us with benefits (Psa. 68:19)â€! He is not leaning over us, clucking His tongue and wagging His head in disappointment as we enjoy another slab of fudge while opening a gift from someone who loves us deeply. All Things to Me (ENTRY #2)
So for those of you who may not be familiar with my music, I thought it would be a treat to let you have a little listen to what will be the title track for my forthcoming album. Now, I will only be able to record it if a whole bunch of you open up your wallets and donate some funds to help me pay for all the production costs! You can donate here. Which I think you should! Share this with your friends!
A Boon of Strength
One of the great battles for many believers is the assurance of their salvation. The fluctuations of our feelings, the failures we see in our life, the all-too-often lack of passion for the things of God, the accusing voice of Satan all mingle together to confuse and confound the saint. Bunyan, who knew this battle for assurance intimately, dedicated a short passage of his famous “Pilgrim’s Progress†to this battle.
I took notice that now poor Christian was so confounded, that he did not know his own voice; and thus I perceived it. Just when he was come over against the mouth of the burning pit, one of the wicked ones got behind him, and stepped up softly to him, and whisperingly suggested many grievous blasphemies to him, which he verily thought had proceeded from his own mind. This put Christian more to it than anything that he met with before, even to think that he should now blaspheme him that he loved so much before; yet, if he could have helped it, he would not have done it; but he had not the discretion either to stop his ears, or to know from whence these blasphemies came.
A Quaint Ol’ Welsh Hymn
I ran across this quaint old welsh hymn. I couldn’t track down who originally wrote it, but a fellow named Joseph Morris translated it! It it certain to be a boon of comfort for the soul of the saint. When the storm rages around the soul, the saint must rest with peace for the Savior is in the boat! Thus, even the storms become a great opportunity to watch the hand of the Father lead us through all turbulence! May this buoy up your faith!
All Things to Me (ENTRY #1)
With the launch of this fundraiser via Kickstarter to help fund my first full length studio album, some have asked about why I landed on the title of “All Things to Me” for the album. Over the course of this recording adventure (Lord willing) I’m going to share some reasons and thoughts as to why I selected this as the title!
First, one of my favorite poems is Jehovah Tsidkenu by RM M’Cheyne. Here are two stanzas, the last of which is where I originally got the phrase: [Read more…] about All Things to Me (ENTRY #1)
Why I’ve Been So Quiet Recently
The blog has been rather silent of late, and it is all because I’ve been working hard to iron out the details of a crowdfunding effort to raise $25,000 in 30 days to help me record a full-length album! I’d greatly appreciate your consideration and support! Find out more on the Kickstarter page:
Sweeter Than Honey
I recently came across this little factoid about honey, that it is considered to have an eternal shelf-life. In fact, some archaeologists have found pots of honey that are thousands of years old in ancient Egyptian tombs, and it is still edible!! This got me to thinking, and it led me to some other interesting facts about mankind’s first source of sweetener.
Some might call honey a sort of miracle food. It just doesn’t go bad. And here’s why: though sugar is a classic breeding ground for spoiling bacteria and organisms, the acidity which gives honey its signature flavor also acts to repel any would-be spoiling agent. In essence, though bacteria would love to make its home in and destroy honey, the honey has a defense mechanism so that it can last, in a sense, forever.
Nutritionists will tell you that honey is one of the best energy boosts for the body. In our day of energy drinks, and power bars, we would actually do better to eat a bowlful of honey. Whereas most sugary treats give a short boost and then a crash, honey gives a boost and––because of the protein in it––is able to sustain the boost. [Read more…] about Sweeter Than Honey
