The story of the Bible is that God made everything, sin messed up everything, and Jesus fixes everything. The Bible teaches us that Adam was the son of God (Lk. 3:38). But through sin, Adam––and all of us, his offspring––were cut off from God. Sin cut us off from our heavenly Father, turning us into orphans.
But God, in His grace and goodness, wasn’t willing for us to remain orphans. He sent Jesus, His beloved Son, to become, through the incarnation, our brother, and as our brother He died the death we should have died, so we could receive the inheritance our sin forfeited. Baptism is our adoption papers. Baptism speaks the kind word to us that through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection God is once more our Father. As our Father He pities us, protects us, provides for us, and chastises us. As His children, we can approach Him with reverent love, and be certain that “all those who come to Him, He will in no wise cast out (Jn. 6:37).”
So welcome our sister to Jesus Christ…
