God’s promises are promises of glory. Glory, however, isn’t like the neon lights of the Vegas strip; flashy distractions from the grimy darkness. Glory is more like the Sun. Piercing light. Sanitizing light. Weighty light. Glory is, indeed, weighty.
Placing the sign of God’s promise upon this child shouldn’t be thought of like a fast pass at an amusement park, as if it gets you to the front of some regeneration line. Rather, this sign brings upon this child the weight of glory. This glory can’t be carried by works of righteousness, it is carried by faith in the one who is Himself the source of that Glory. Such glory will crush the unbelieving man. But when this weight is received by faith, you bear glory in order to bring glory to the Giver of that glory.
So welcome our brother to Jesus Christ…
